Happy National Day Australia!!
Woohoo....today is officially this nation's birthday! Happy birthday Australia...many muacks!! There are many things here that are beautiful and so very aussie ..let me count the ways =>
(1) The weather. I love the seasons (though yes i keep complaining in winter + summer). I love autumn and spring. Nature is just so filled with beauty during autumn and spring!
(2) The affordablility of things here for the masses. It is not difficult for the common man to own houses/cars/boats and enjoy the so-called "luxuries" of life.
(3) Old cars. Really REALLY vintage tacky cute looking wierd cars which in my view adds character to the roads! Hahaha....really cute....sometimes i stop at the lights and take a pic with my phone.
(4) Twist off beer bottles. BRILLIANT! Simple but brilliant change to bottle caps. Aussies drink at any time of the day. Most profs would have a bar fridge near their desk.
(5) Wine. Yummy yummy .... sheesh ... prices are .... GLUP GLUP GLUP! Wineries are within less than hr's drive.
(6) Wide roads and availability of head first wide parking spaces. It is good for drivers like me ;P
(7) Affable jokers. It seems everyone is not serious and yet can be serious. Getting along will be to throw jabs and punches with good punts. Once you learn how to laugh at yourself and at others over a drink, you're considered alright mate!
(8) Good and cheap pizzas! It tastes amazing, quite different from the yucks back in Singapore.
(9) Orhhh....my one true love. Chilli mussels...oh oh oh .... when shall i EAT you again my love!!!!
(10) Polite bus drivers and the elderly friendly buses. The bus drivers dont just zoom off when an elderly gets on but waits patiently for the elderly to hobble to his/her seat before gently driving off. It is courtesy to say thanks or wave to the driver before you alight. He either gives a grunt, shout bye or give a wave back at ya. The buses have extendable ramps that provide easy boarding for wheelchairs, babyprams or heavy shopping trolleys. Left bus tires can be 'deflated' temporarily so that the bus is lowered for easy boarding for the elderly or when the ramp is in use. Chairs can be folded up to fit a pram beside a passenger seat (for the parent). At the final stop during chrissy eve, recalled driver greeting all alighting passengers with "Merry Christmas everyone". So sweet yah?
(11) Pace of life. People here take time to slow down, stop and smell the flowers. People here take time to relax. People here dont just let work consume their life. They have morning tea and afternoon tea at work!
(12) Air. It is fresh. Reallliieeeee......im serious, i feel it ok!
(13) Coffees. Good cheap stuff...speaking comparitively here. Taking time to catch up over a cuppa.
(14) Flower brooches. Heeehhee.....i like! Not as expensive as those sold in Singapore and much nicer as well.
(15) Fresh herbs and vegetables for a fraction of the price!
(16) Milk. The milk tastes really sweet here without the addition of flavouring unlike HL back at home. Yummy!
(17) Nature, nature, nature! Cant get enough of it! Photographic delight!
(18) The river. I like staying near the river, quite therapeutic. Bring a mat, bring a drink, some snacks, a book, shades, sunblock lotion plus a bikini top. Relax, look at guys attempting to windsurf or little gals walking their dogs. Very therapeutic dont you think ;)
